yá cult is about cultural self-expression

yá [牙] is teeth in Chinese, and cult is for culture.

wén yá [紋牙]: to pattern and texturize teeth.

yá cult: a culture of patterns on teeth.

 

We combine the technical expertise of dentistry with cultural designs to create high quality, semi-permanent, biocompatible jewelry. Dr. Jess (she/her), a queer, Chinese-Canadian licensed general dentist, founded yá cult as a means to promote self-expression and to connect with the AAPI community in a unique way. From the design process to the installation, Dr. Jess uses only the highest quality dental materials and precious metals to ensure safety while maintaining aesthetics. Her pieces are meant to add cultural value, and to help Asian and Asian-inspired communities tell their stories.

yá cult pieces are conceptualized and designed by hand, and then transformed into a 3D file. The 3D file is then adapted to the 3D scan of the teeth to create a seamless fit. Finally, the piece is sustainably casted, then finished by hand with polishing, adding touches of color, and glazing with a tarnish proof coat. ​​
